Comparative Study on Typical and Atypical Presentations of Kalazar Cases in Children of Bihar and Evaluation of Response of Atypical Kalazar Cases to Amphotericin B

Objective : To do a comparative study on typical & atypical cases of kalazar based on presentation and response of atypical cases to Amphotericin B therapy in Pediatric department of PMCH, Patna. Method : From the age group 2 to 14 years, TOO confirmed cases of Kalazar were taken for study & observations were made based on the way of presentation of cases. Also observation on response of the atypical Kalazar cases to Amphotericin B and number of atypical Kalazar cases cured was made. Results : Percentage of cases of Kalazar presenting atypically & typically were 11% & 89% respectively. All atypical cases of Kalazar responded well to Amphotericin B therapy if associated problems & diseases were treated simultaneously. Conclusion : , During the study, 89% of Kalazar cases presented typically & 11% in atypical manner. All the atypical cases responded well to Amphotericin B therapy & were gradually cured.
