Therapeutic efficacy of pigeon waste in anestrus cattle

摘要

The effect of pigeon waste (droppings) on anestrus cattle was studied. Calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, cobalt, zinc and manganese were estimated as 83.92, 51.60, 142.7, 4.5, 1.1, 14.1 and 3.18 mg/l00g, respectively, in it. Iron and zinc in the pigeon waste was4.85 and 2.23 times higher as compared to commercially available mineral mixture. Prepubertal Swiss mice when given normal feed with pigeon waste, there was 84.5% increase in the weight of genitalia. Ovary, oviduct and uterus revealed normal morphological features and plasma estrogen and progesterone were also normal. In 30 anestrus cows each, 100 g pigeon waste for 3 days (orally) and 5 ml Receptal, im, respectively, were given of which 7 and 10 animals showed signs of estrus. Conception rate using pigeon waste was comparable with receptal injection (71.43 vs 70%) but pigeon waste was more economical.
