Clinico-therapeutic management of actinomycosis in cattle of Kashmir valley

Diagnosis of actinomycosis in 4 cattle (2 cows and 2 bulls) and their effective management with combination of iodide (oral potassium iodide or iv sodium iodide) and antibiotic therapy is reported. Actinomycosis is a chronic disease in cattle and presumed to occur through wounds to the buccal mucosa caused by sharp pieces of food or foreign materials or teeth eruption in young cattle (Radostits et al, 2000). As information is scanty on the disease from this area, the present paper reports occurrenceand management of actinomycosis in cattle of Kashmir valley.
