A screening trial was conducted in 2002 in Gujarat, India, to determine which was the most resistant against leaf spot disease (Alternaria alternata) among nine green gram cultivars (BARC GM-3, BARC TM-97-52, BARC TM-96-2, BARC TM-98-50, GM-3, BARC TM-97-55, BARC TM-97-25, CO-4 and GM-4). Of the nine cultivars/germplasms screened under natural conditions, the minimum percent disease index was recorded in CO-4 (8.66%) and hence was regarded as resistant, while BARC TM-97-55 showed moderately resistant reaction (20.00%). BARC TM-97-25 (21.33%), GM-4 (21.99%), BARC TM-97-52 (22.22%), BARC GM-3 (22.44%), BARC TM-96-2 (23.33%), BARC TM-98-50 (23.55%) and GM-3 (31.10%) were moderately susceptible.
