Pre- and post-emergence damping off in aubergine cv. ABV-1 ranged from 29 to 30% in vegetable nurseries in and around Parbhani, Maharashtra, India. The causal fungus, Fusarium equiseti, was highly pathogenic. The association between the nematode, Meloidogyne incognita, and the fungus was synergistic. Lowest damping off incidence was observed when neem cake was added to the soil, followed by ambadi, cotton and safflower cake. Soil solarization and rabbing were effective in reducing damping off. Trichoderma harzianum and Aspergillus niger exhibited antagonistic activity against the pathogen. Seed treatment with T. harzianum at 10 g/kg seed + soil application of T. harzianum at 20 g/pot showed minimum damping off. Seed treatment with captan or thiram at 3 gm/kg was best in reducing damping off. Lowest damping off was observed with 5% formaldehyde drenching. Integrated management of damping off was obtained with 5% formaldehyde drenching + seed treatment with thiram at 3 gm/kg seed + 0.3% copper oxychloride drenching.
