The Citrus species are important fruit crops in the world. A number of studies have been conducted to improve the efficiency of propagation of selected species and cultivars using different primary explants such as sections (Hu and Kong, 4), roots (Sauton et al., 11; Sim et al., 12; Bhat et al., 2), internode and node segments (Barlass and Skene, 1; Moore, 7; Duran-Vila et al., 3). However, information on direct organogenesis (without callus formation) through epicotyl segments in Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck. cv. Mosambi and Jaffa is lacking, except the report of Parthasarathy and Nagaraju (9, 10) on shoot proliferation and rooting in cv. Mosambi. Previous studies have shown differences in the response to in vitro cultures. In addition, informationon root was greatest limiting factor in whole plant recovery. Therefore, objective of this study was to regenerate plantlets via direct organogenesis from epicotyl segments obtained from in vitro germinated nucellar seedlings of sweet orange cv. Mosambiand Jaffa.
