New Examples oftrisOrganosilylboranes

The preparation oftrisorganosilylboranes of the general formula (YSiMe2CH2)3B, I, where Y = Me3Si-, Me3SiO- and halogen is described. A Grignard synthesis serves for the preparation of the Y = F-, Me3Si- and Me3SiO- compounds. Using the Me3SiO-compound, the cleavage of the disiloxane units with boron trihalides allows the preparation of the halogen derivatives. Kinetic studies on the air oxidation of the Me3SiO- compound show the reaction to be first order in borane. The preparation of the linear polymers Cl(SiMe2CH2)nCl, n = 3, 4, 5, and 6, is described.
