摘要

Total ash and acid insoluble ash content (11.50% and 2.65%) was higher in Citrus medica as compared to Carissa carandus leaves (9.675% and 0.575%), which reflects to quality and purity and provides baseline data study of the two plants. Significantlyhigher percentage yield for different fractions in C. carandus than C. medica is indicative of better free radical scavenging property. Both plants however, contained ascorbic acid, flavonoids, glycosides and alkaloids in crude extract which are attributed to antioxidative properties. Crude extract and its fractional preparation for C. carandus showed positive reaction for amino acid in ethyl methyl ketone and aqueous extract, glycosides in ethylacetate, n-butanol and ethyl methyl ketone fraction, phenols in ethyl methyl ketone and aqueous extract and tannins in crude, ethyl methyl ketone and aqueous extract.
