Efficacy of modified Salmonella vaccine in poultry was evaluated in 50 apparently healthy chicks of 3 weeks of age (gr A) inoculated with the toxoid (stored for 6 months at 4°C) @ 100 mg/chick sc. Apparently healthy flock (50 chicks) of same breed and age (gr B) severed as control. The humoral immunity was assessed by ELISA on day 0, 15, 30, 60 and 90 post vaccination (dpv). Modified Salmonella toxoid afforded 100% protection against the oral challenge and 92.85% protection against intraperitoneal challenge with S. gallinarum and was efficacious under field conditions against salmonellosis up to 3 months, which is vulnerable period with regards to the disease.
