Therapeutic management of organophosphate and carbamate poisoning in dogs

Detailed examination of 19 dogs suspected for organophosphate and carbamate poisoning revealed that the dogs with open wounds (7) were bathed with asuntal soap; 6 dogs were washed with nuvan and notix powder was applied over open wounds of 6 dogs of various breeds and sex. All the dogs revealed dullness, convulsions, seizures, respiratory distress, twitching of facial muscles and hyperexcitement. No significant changes in haematology and biochemical parameters were noticed except moderate leukocytosis with neutrophilia. All the dogs responded to treatment with atropine sulfate (0.25 mg/kg, iv), diazepam (0.5 mg/kg, im) and Ringers lactate (250-500 ml, iv).
