Variability, heritability and correlation studies in chilli (Capsicum spp.) under shade

Chilli is most important vegetable-cum-spice valued for its aroma, taste, flavour and pungency. Important cultivated species are Capsicum annuum, C. frutescens and C. chinense. In recent years, chilli is gaining importance in intercropping system incoconut garden and hence identifying shade-tolerant varieties has been considered as a salient objective in its breeding programme. Information on variability and heritability of plant characters and association among yield and its component characters are of vital importance in any breeding programme. Hence, the present study was taken up to estimate the variability, heritability and correlation between yield and yield attributes under shade.
