Effect of distinct corm grades on flowering and corm development in gladiolus

Gladiolus is commercially propagated through corms. The size of mother corm plays a vital role in influencing its yield, and quality of spike and planting material. Different grades of corms also had given contradictory results. (Arora and Khanna, 2; Bhattacharjee, 3; Misra et al. 7; Mohanty et al., 8 and Mukhopadhya and Yadav, 9). Laskar and Jana (6) reported that favourable-sized mother corm should be planted, which can give maximum returns varied with growing locations, their prevailing environment and available soil type for gladiolus cultivation. Hence, experiment was conducted to find out the optimum grade of mother corms for obtaining superior quality flower spikes and increased yield of planting material in gladiolus Pink Friendship.
