The performance of 16 chilli (Capsicum annuum) was evaluated Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India, during the winter seasons of 2003-04 and 2004-05. CA-2 recorded the greatest plant height (89.56 and 84.06 cm in 2003-04 and 2004-05, respectively). The number of primary and secondary branches per plant varied from 4.0 to 9.8 and 8.4 to 20.6, respectively. The number of primary branches per plant was more than 7.0 in most of the genotypes. The number of primary branches was significantly and positively correlated with the number of secondary branches. DKC-8 registered the lowest number of days to flowering (42.21) and number of days to initial harvesting (85.68). Crop duration was shortest in PC-1 (160.0 days) and longest in CA-3 (205.83). Fruit length (9.59 cm) and diameter (1.63 cm) were greatest in CA-6 and CA-2, respectively. DKC-8 had the highest number of fruits per plant (152.73) and ascorbic acid content (125.83 mg/100 g). The highest fresh yield was registered for CA-8 (8.76 and 8.41 t/ha, respectively).
