Correlation and path coefficient analyses for yield and yield components were conducted for 69 chilli genotypes grown in Dharwad, Karnataka, India, during 2004-05. The genotypic correlation was greater than the phenotypic correlation. The number of fruits per plant and number of branches per plant exhibited significant and positive correlation with fruit yield per plant at the genotypic and phenotypic levels. Path analysis revealed that fruit yield per plant was directly affected by the number of fruits per plant, fruit weight and number of seeds per fruit. The weight of seeds per fruit had negative direct effect on dry fruit yield per plant. The results indicated that selection for number of fruits per plant, fruit weight and number of seeds per fruit may enhance the yield of pepper.
