摘要

Peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch.] is an important temperate fruit being grown under the humid temperate mid hills, however, most of cultivated varieties are conventional in nature with poor yield potential and quality traits. A number of new peach cultivars were introduced in the recent pasts, which are precocious. These cultivars vary in their flowering, fruit set and fruit growth pattern depending upon the prevailing climatic conditions. The present study was undertaken with a view to assess thesuitability of these cultivars for recommending to the progressive farmers of the area. The investigation was carried out at Horticultural Experimental Orchard of G.B. Pant Univ., Hill Campus, Ranichauri during the year 2000-2001, on 18-year-old, uniformgrowing six cultivars namely; Tessia Samisto, Early White Giant, Stark Early Giant, Hales Early, Crawford Early and July Elberta. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with four replications. The data were recorded on various attributes of flowering, fruit set and fruit growth pattern. Fruit growth studies were started immediately after petal fall following fruit set by recording fruit size and weight after plucking five fruits each time and calculating their mean values.
