Dormant bud culture of thin shelled almond

Almonds are highly attractive and delicious dry fruits, which occupy an important place among temperate fruits of the world. There are two local groups of almonds (Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb.) thick and thin shelled, which are highly plastic dueto heterozygosity and hence the conventional method of propagation is by nursery budding on seedling rootstocks (Hartman et al,,2), which is not only cumbersome but also have low certainity, To boost up the propagation of desired cultivars plant tissue culture technique may be useful (Mehra and Mehra, 5; Tabachnick and Kester, 10; Kester et al. 3). In present communication an effort has been made to establish cultures from dormant buds from thin shelled almond.
