Pear [Pyrus pyrifolia (Burm. F.) Nakai] is cultivated to a considerable extent in Northern India and it is next to apple in importance, acreage and production. Fulfilling the nutritional needs of the trees is one of the major factors in fruit production. The availability of the nutrient elements has a significant effect on yield and quality of pear fruits (Ystaas, 4). It is, therefore, necessary to apply nutrients to the pear through fertilizers and manures on a regular basis. Nutrients are used by the pear tree for vegetable growth and production of fruit. Some amount of the nutrients is fixed in plant in its annual growth. A sizeable quantity of nutrients is permanently removed in the form of fruits. Since the pear is a deciduous plant, the annualleaf fall also removes the nutrients. There is scanty information on the nutrient removal by fruits and leaves in pear. Such information can provide sound basis for formulation of fertilization programmes in pear. Hence, the present study was attemptedto find out N, P and K removal by fruits and leaves of pear tree.
