Morphological and phytochemical studies associated with floral malformation in mango

Morphological study revealed marked size variations in essential and non-essential floral organs of the malformed flowers of mango var. Rajapuri. There was an impairment in sex ratio of flowers. In the varieties observed, the sex ratio decreased except in Kesar. Ovaries from malformed flowers were mostly abortive. Phytochemical studies revealed the accumulation of chemicals like phenol and p-nydroxybenzoic acid in malformed panicles. The other phytochemicals resulted after infection mostly led to the development of malformed growth of the panicles rather than in disease resistance.
