Softwood grafting in Khasi mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco)

The productivity of Khasi mandarin is very low (4.4 t/ha) in northeastern region of India due to many factors. In citrus, rootstocks are known to have a profound effect on the vigour, precocity, productivity, physiological characters of fruits, longevity of trees, disease resistance and adaptability to soil and climatic conditions (Aiyappa et al., 1; Rao et al., 5). Exhaustive studies on the suitability of softwood grafting had been reported in different fruit crops but no works have been reported so far on mandarin orange. Therefore, an attempt was made to study the feasibility of softwood grafting in Khasi mandarin.
