Comparative performance of some early ripening grape cultivars grown under arid irrigated conditions of Punjab

A study was carried out on the three-year-old vines of seven early ripening grape cultivars viz. Beauty Seedless, Bharat Early, Early Muscat, Khalili, Loose Perlette, Pearl of Csaba and Perlette at Regional Fruit Research Station, Bathinda. The maximum fruit yield (4.6 kg/vine), bunch weight (163 g), bunch size (19.0 cm x 12.2 cm), TSS (22%) and lower acid content (0.76%) were recorded in Pearl of Csaba as compared to Perlette and other grape cultivars. Maximum berry weight (2.60 g) and berry size were observed in Perlette grape. Khalili although superior in quality but was found to be a shy bearer. Based on these results, Pearl of Csaba was found more suitable for cultivation in the arid irrigated region of Punjab because of earliness in ripening,higher yield with better fruit quality.
