Symmetrical compensators of spherical aberration

This paper describes a technique for designing afocal compensators of spherical aberration. Optical setups are considered for three-lens symmetrical compensators consisting of spherical surfaces. The results of an aberrational calculation are presented. A comparison is made with the optical setups of known compensators, including Schmidt and Volosov-Gal'pern compensators.
