New low-weight glass container suitable for the packaging of fruit and vegetable preserves.

This study was intended to design a lower-weight container for packaging tomatoes, fruit and vegetable juices and pulps, as well as strained products, with particular reference to replacing the 720-ml bottle used for strained tomatoes. A bottle was obtained weighing 275 g, compared with the 310-g bottle currently on the market, yet with the same resistance to axial and transversal loads. The lower weight has a lower environmental impact in terms of lower energy consumption, higher processing line capacity and lower air emissions, and also costs less.
