Power Electronic Devices#x2014;Types and Applications#x2014;an Overview

摘要

In this paper, an overview of the types and applications of power electronic devices as available today is presented. According to their basic operation as switches, these devices are categorised into three main groups. Devices in each group are again subdivided into subgroups depending upon their specific characteristics and applications. The ratings, characteristics and application areas of Power Diodes, Thyristors, GTO switches, and Power Transistors along with the new devices which are at the development stage are briefly summarised.
