Field experiments were carried out in Parbhani, Maharashtra, India, during 2009-10, to investigate the efficacy of some antibiotics against bacterial blight of soyabean, caused by P. syringae pv. glycinea [ P. savastanoi pv. glycinea]. The treatments comprised T1-streptocycline (100 ppm)+copper oxychloride (0.25%), T2-streptocycline (100 ppm), T3-2 bromo 2 nitro propene 1-3 diol (500 ppm), T4-copper oxychloride (0.25%), T5-poushamycin (200 ppm), and T6-control. Observations on the disease incidence and severity were recorded at 30, 45 and 60 days after sowing (DAS). T1 recorded the highest seed yield (2605 kg/ha) and test weight (14.33 g), with minimum mean disease intensity of 12.74% and mean pod infection of 4.22%. The next best treatment was T2, which recorded seed yield of 2505 kg/ha and test weight of 14.00 g, with mean disease intensity of 17.42% and mean pod infection of 5.22%. This was followed by T4, T3 and T5, with seed yield of 2406, 2248 and 2205 kg/ha; test weight of 13.50, 13.16 and 13.11 g; mean disease intensity of 28.15, 22.49 and 35.51%; and mean pod infection of 8.24, 12.90 and 13.10%, respectively.
