A model is suggested, which — starting with the relatively small hydromechanical selectivity of the basilarmembrane displacement — describes the level dependent frequency selectivity of the ear as measured psychoacoustically. Nonlinear transferfunctions cause the level dependence. The increment in selectivity is produced by differential devises.
