To reduce costs,companies have focused on their core businesses and outsourced all the rest. in line with that strategy, many well-known brands in the high-tech industry have outsourced most of their manufacturing, selling facilities to contract manufacturers and selling facilities to contract manufacturers and engaging in long term outsourcing contracts. In doing so, they have transformed their supply chains into eco-systems that comprise many players (see fig 1), but a couple of key questions are now being raised. How should these ecosystems be managed, how is visibility maintained across this complex supply chain, and how can they be adapted quickly to changing market conditions and external events?
