A heterojunction consisting of a poly(p-phenylene vinylene) and polypyridine has been fabricated and has been characterized. Upon making heterojunction, the photovoltaic characteristics of the devise are significantly improved. For example, the short-circuit photocurrent from the heterojunctoin device was larger than those from single-layer devices by about an order of magnitude. Since the former polymer and the latter are thought to be a donor and an acceptor, respectively, the results suggest the interfacial photoinduced charge transfer between the two polymers.
