Discussion of 'Base-Isolated FCC Building: Impact Response in Northridge Earthquake' by Satish Nagarajaiah and Xiaohong Sun

The purpose of this discussion is to point out an earlier study by Maison and Ventura (1992), who did, a similar type of analysis and had the same conclusions as presented in the paper by Nagarajaiah and Sun (2001). In the earlier study, correlative response analyses were conducted on a different CSMIP instrumented building that included consideration of hypothetical pounding at the isolator level. The pounding-modeling approach (Maison and Kasai 1990) used was the same as that by the writers. It is gratifying to see that the writers essentially confirmed the conclusions of the earlier work, namely.
