Feelings of intoxication induced by alcohol are biphasic. At low doses alcohol produces excitation—intoxication and at high doses C.N.S. depression.It is suggested that normal social drinkers drink to facilitate excitation—intoxication, a technique either never acquired or for other new reasons worse than useless for alcoholics. The possible application of this suggested treatment is discussed.If it is desired to return alcoholics to normal social drinking, a great deal more needs to be known about bodily responses to alcohol both in the normal and the abnormal drin
