Structure of the Central North Aegean Trough: an active strike‐slip deformation zone

AbstractDetailed interpretation of marine seismic data shows the presence of an extending, active, dextral strike‐slip fault zone at the south edge of the Mount Athos Peninsula. The zone is over 100 km long and has both transtensional and transpressive features observable on the seismic lines. We suggest that dextral strike‐slip displacement along the zone is on the order of 5–7 km.
