EFFECT OF SUCROSE ON FLOWER INITIATION OFPHARBITIS NILIN ASEPTIC CULTURE

Pharbitisplants were cultured on a nutrient medium containing 5sucrose or no sucrose. They were subjected to various light conditions at temperatures of 10°or 20°.All the plants cultured on the sucrose-medium at 10°initiated flower buds independently of the light to which the plants were exposed.Plants cultured on the sucrose-free medium at 10°initiated flower buds under short photoperiods, but did not under continuous illumination.Plants cultured on the sucrose-medium at 20°initiated flower buds in total darkness or under short photoperiods regardless of the intensity and quality of the light, but those subjected to continuous illumination did not.Plants cultured on the sucrose-free medium at 20°initiated flower buds under short photoperiods but did not initiate them under continuous illumin
