WHILE A STAND-ALONE range of funky electric vehicles spearheads BMW's assault on the alternatively fuelled market, Volkswagen prefers to slip EV underpinnings beneath its existing bodyshells. Which it can do with ease, because the modular MQB platform used across the Volkswagen Group enables electric vehicles to be built with little or no compromise. This new e-Golf - now available for order in the UK - is proof of that. Besides a slight loss of rear luggage space and some bespoke eco-focused tweaks, this variant looks and feels very similar to conventionally powered versions.
