SEAT DOESN'T HAVE much of a track record for rugged models but that will change in 2016 with the arrival of its first compact SUV, a car for which this four-wheel-drive Leon estate is intended to prime the market. The Leon X-Perience's ride height has been raised by 15mm, and bigger wheels and tyres bring the total height gain over a standard Leon ST estate to 27mm. The car spends most of its time in front-wheel drive, but if more traction is called for, the multi-clutch Haldex system apportions up to 50 per cent of the power to the rear. New front and rear bumpers with protective plastic skid plates combine with extra black plastic cladding for the wheel arches and the sills to provide a toughened appearance.
