KEN LIVINGSTONE may have scuppered plans to let low polluters like this Leon Ecomotive into London for free, but manufacturers remain keener than ever to rush their green models to the market. With this, Seat's second eco-oriented model, engineers have optimised the ECU on the basic 135g/km CO{sub}2,1.9-litre diesel Leon, and made third, fourth and fifth gears longer. That saves 7g/km. Weight has also been shaved off, partly by fitting lighter steel wheels rather than alloys. Another 5g/km saved. And low-resistance tyres were added, shaving a further 4g/km. That leaves the Ecomotive with 119g/km of CO{sub}2, squeezing it into cheaper tax bands.
