Antimicrobial prophylaxis for transrectal prostatic biopsy

The topic of sepsis following transrectal prostatic biopsy and antimicrobial prophylaxis is discussed. A number of retrospective and prospective studies are reviewed together with reports of adjunctive and alternative techniques. Conclusions are drawn regarding current practice and future research aims.
