Seven ramps up power: Caterham's new 620R flagship packs 311bhp and promises 0-60mph in 2.79sec

Caterham will unveil its most powerful Seven yet at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. The Seven 620R replaces the R500 at the top of Caterham's range. The latest incarnation of the track-focused range has a supercharged version of the 2.0-litre Ford Duratec used in the R400 and R500 Superlights. It is tuned to develop 311bhp at 7700rpm and 219lb ft at 7350rpm. Caterham claims that the 620R is capable of reaching 60mph in 2.79sec. Although its kerb weight is still to be officially confirmed, its name is thought to underline a power-to-weight ratio of 620bhp per tonne.
