Subaru XV: Mileage 7608 Lake District trip puts the rugged crossover in its natural environment

Pub quiz regulars might know that Seathwaite, just a few miles south of Keswick in the Lake District, is the wettest inhabited place in England. Nevertheless, when my parents invited me for a week's holiday in the area in October, the opportunity to give the XV a proper long-distance workout on a variety of roads was too good to pass up. From our rendezvous in Wiltshire, we spent many miles heading north up the M5/M6 spine. The 2.0-litre diesel that powers our XV offers impressive urge in the middle of the rev range and cruises along quite happily in motorway traffic.
