Electric turbo for Audi V6 diesel: Audi uses an electric 'e-booster' to improve the response of its V6 diesel engine's turbochargers

Audi has revealed an almost production-ready prototype of its upcoming electrically assisted V6 turbodiesel engine. Based on an all-new V6 engine architecture, this new motor features twin turbochargers, which are assisted by an 'e-booster'. Like many of today's higher-end diesel engines, the new unit uses two-stage turbocharging. The smaller of the two turbos is lighter and easier to spin up and is intended to give the engine more grunt at lower engine speeds. The bigger turbo takes over at higher speeds.
