IT'S OFFICIAL: THE muscle car power war first waged between the likes of Chevrolet, Ford, Plymouth and Dodge in the 1960s is still raging. Not to be outdone by Ford's quickest Mustang, the Shelby GT500, Chevrolet's response is the ZL1, the most potent Camaro yet produced. The four-seat, rear-drive muscle car is a tribute to the 1969 Camaro ZL1 drag strip special. The modern version represents a Rocky-style comeback for extreme Chevy muscle cars. After GM's financial crisis and US taxpayer bailout in 2009, it shied away from building cars such as this to avoid accusations that it was frittering away citizens' money.
