23.4.09, Stuttgart Fettled Porsche aims to regain the class crown. IT HAS BEEN a tough time of late for 911 fans, what with the second-gen 997 losing out to the Audi R8 and Jaguar XKR. Surely, though, Porsche can't have dropped the ball with the mightiest of 911s, the GT3? It's with trepidation that I fire up the enlarged 3.8-litre flat six for the first time. Because despite the increase in capacity, and consequent 30bhp rise in power, this is at heart the same motorsport-derived block that does without direct fuel injection (unlike the regular 911).
