Volvo's attention seeker - Our V70 needed its first service 8000 miles ahead of schedule

AS 9600 MILES BLIPPED into place on the Volvo's dashboard, a message appeared warning me to book the car in for a service. Odd; the V70's first service is at 18,000 miles or 12 months. But I didn't have much time to investigate further as the V70 was pressed into service to visit Volvo's Ghent plant in Belgium. A few months ago servicing the V70 couldn't have been easier. Volvo had a main dealer in Teddington, just a couple of minutes walk from Autocar offices. But that dealer - and a related one only a couple of miles away in Twickenham - had closed down. By 10,600 miles the dashboard was demanding a service, so I contacted Squire Furneaux in Hersham. The service department there was able to book the car in at short notice and also managed to complete the first service in less than three hours.
