VW's new SUV revealed as plug-in hybrid concept

Petrol-electric Cross Coupe GTE previews Volkswagen's new large SUV with 355bhp and a 20-mile electric range. Volkswagen has unveiled a new version of its CrossBlue concept at the Detroit motor show, revealing a fresh new styling direction and a 355bhp petrol-electric plug-in hybrid system. It's expected to go into production by the end of 2017. Compared with its concept predecessor, the Cross Coupe GTE, which was styled under the guidance of Klaus Bischoff, features a more rugged-looking exterior and a further refined interior. Both were revised following criticism of the CrossBlue in various styling clinics held in the US. At 4847mm in length, 2030mm in width and 1736mm in height, the Cross Coupe GTE is 52mm longer, 90mm wider and 26mm taller than the recently facelifted Touareg. It's underpinned by the latest evolution of the MOB platform.
