Rover's swansong is now going for a song, and it's still a great executive car. The last Rover ever designed could quite rightly be described as a Werther's Original on wheels -75 by model name, nature and seemingly the average age of its owners. From the steam punk retro interior to the avuncular bodywork, there is nothing remotely exciting or pulse-quickening about the old girl. As a car, the 75 impresses as all-round family and business transportation, being smooth, quiet and very refined. Yes, not everyone responds well to the retro-designed interior, but it is well executed, classy and different from the usual dark-plastic cockpits. It is comfortable, too, although taller rear seat passengers don't have a lot of legroom. The boot is big and the 75 has good safety and security features. It is a refined drive, but not a sporty one. However, for many buyers who want stress-free motorway driving and efficient around-town behaviour, that easygoing performance will be more than adequate.
