Mileage | 2565 City life under electric propulsion is proving remarkably hassle-free, but the Leaf isn't the most stable of motorway companions. A recent experience driving a V8 diesel Range Rover through the middle of London provided a timely reminder of why electric propulsion is so well suited to city centre travel, An easy 12-mile trip to the bottom of the M1 was completely derailed by the closure of Park Lane, central London's main north-south artery. It took me nearly an hour and three-quarters to escape from the gridlock, but after only an hour of nose-to-tail traffic the Range Rover's dashboard declared that its diesel particulate filter (DPF) was full. Of course, the DPF is a good thing because all those damaging sooty particles would have been pumped into the capital's atmosphere and the lungs of passers-by without it.
