3000-MILE REPORT We're settling into life with Alpha's alternative, diesel-powered take on a BMW M3, and it's (nearly) all plain sailing. Got an interesting note from a fellow D3 owner the other week. This chap bought his car less than three months ago, since when he's done 7000 miles in it and, mostly, loved every second of it. Except for one thing: he doesn't like the way his D3 rides. Which seems a curious observation considering how comfortable I reckon our car is, certainly compared with the stiffer, less soothing factory BMW M3. Oddly, though, this guy reckons his D3 feels "rock hard", even on fairly smooth surfaces. And so flummoxed was he by this that he went back to Alpina to ask if they knew of a solution. To which Alpina replied that he should check that the tyre pressures are at 2.4bar, rather than at the 2.7bar (front) and 3.2bar (rear) at which they leave the factory. So he did and, sure enough, the pressures were indeed set at 2.7/3.2bar - which is what the factory recommends for high-speed autobahn driving with a full load.
