This could be the sports car that puts Mexico on the world stage. Mexico is a country with big ambitions for its automotive output. Last year more than three million vehicles were built there - twice the number built in the UK. Mexican production grew by 50 per cent in 2010, 14 per cent in 2011 and 12 per cent in 2012. Yet until Mastretta, Mexico could not lay claim to an indigenous car maker. Now Vuhl has arrived with its 05, a sports car that could kick-start Mexico's car industry. Despite the Germanic timbre of its name, Vuhl is a Mexican company, founded by two brothers, Guillermo and Iker Echeverria. Together with Alberto Chapa, they have not only built their own brand and developed their own car but have also secured investment from the Mexican government. Mexico wants to promote its car building prowess, and Vuhl's international ambitions are considered to be a good advertisement.
