Mercedes-Benz has confirmed crucial spec details about its most affordable performance model to date: the A45 AMG. The Audi RS3 and BMW M135i rival is set to go on sale early next year. It will sit at the top of the new A-class line-up at a price that is expected to start at about ￡32,000. The first series-production AMG model with a transversely mounted engine runs a heavily tuned version of Mercedes' turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit, as used in the standard A250 Sport that will go on sale in the UK by the end of the year.
