Home-Grown Diesel engines will soon power the full range of Volvo cars, Maurice Glover reports. The Swedish firm could be manufacturing its own range of next generation heavy-oil units in two years time, it was claimed at the Geneva Motor Show. Sivert Hiljemark, the Swedish company's engine division managing director, said the projected global growth indicated that diesel would power 20 per cent of Volvo car production by 2003. "We have decided it makes sense for us to develop and produce a common diesel and petrol engine family for use in conventional cars and, possibly, hybrid vehicles," he said.
