The continual plugging of what car makers seem to consider gaps in their model ranges might puzzle some. Take BMW. It creates a conventional saloon and logically follows it with a sleeker, two-door coupe version of the same car. But next, it appears to back- track and create a four-door version of its newly streamlined coupe. Some might perceive them as being effectively the same thing, but the resulting product usually does have its own distinctive elements and, ultimately, allows the manufacturer to appeal to more buyers.
