Colin Goodwin wonders which is quicker on a long trip: electric car or horse-drawn carriage? Renault talked about it a few years ago when embarking upon its electric adventure. The idea is that an electric car will have removable batteries that can be disconnected in moments and then swapped for a fully charged pack. In theory, this changeover could be quicker than filling your conventional car with petrol, unless of course some wretched kid in the queue can't choose between Fruit Pastilles and Wine Gums.
